So I'm less sick than before and have been drawing all day.

Word.

On the mutha-effin mend, y'allz.

Stick a wrench in me, I'm done.

So somehow I'm sick again, amusingly enough. This is sick #3 for the winter of 06-07. I usually get sick maybe once a year if that, so this is quite the streak. So whilst I'm in good spirits, I haven't had much energy and I feel lethargic, like a snake. So I drew myself as a reptile.
This is the closest I've ever come to stream-of-consciousness drawing. Enjoy it, it'll probably never happen again.

In other news, today is the birthday of my dear friends Dylan and Denman Rooke. Happy 21st, guys.

I'm doing all kinds of band artwork and such. Got a call from a friend in Boston, and he related a hilarious story about how he was mistakenly hassled by Homeland Security. Poor guy. They did the whole nine yards trying to link him to a threat against the president. I guess someone hacked his wifi connection and that was who they were really looking for. It's good that they figured this out, as the laws in place could've easily seen him taken to a CIA detention center and never seen again.

Blah. I wish to be sick no more!

Cash Culture and Violence

So I strikes me upon reading the first 7 chapters of Genesis today that, taken at face value, it is nearly incomprehensible. But I can appreciate that. Origin stories rarely make much sense.

So I'm studying more lately. As in today. Let's see if I can keep it up.

Cleo got a hair cut! She's nice because she likes me even when I'm a jerk.

It's been a weird day. I had bad dreams. I had a bad morning. No one has emailed me back that's supposed to. I'm waiting for tax forms and am already late sending out my 1099-MISCs. Blah. Here's hoping it gets better/I arbitrarily feel better.

I don't really like Danzig, or a lot of metal, but you really couldn't tell by the design I just finished.

I learned how to make fried chicken today.

And it was good as part of homemade chicken parm.

Today I shoveled, cooked, did dishes and hung with friends, and parallel parked in snow... twice.

This week I've been doing a lot of black and white stuff, it's reminding me of my colorset during my decade-long color ban. But it's been fun. These are little bits and pieces of largely texty stuff for some current clients.

So Cleo is teh awesomez and got me a sweet fan unit that snaps on to the back of our 360, to cool and condition the air going in and out of it... hopefully it will cause the device to straighten up and fly right. Hooray for Cleo!

I sprung my valentines surprise on her, which was a tattoo from Justun. It's a chest piece I designed to her specifications, with a lot of imagiary personal to her. She was a trooper for the 2 hours it took to do the outline, and she's going back next week for the colors...

Yes. It's pretty sweet. You'll have to see it in person. Justun is awesome.

Positive Aspects of Negativity

So you know what I'm good at? Criticism. Not necessarily of people, but ideas. And I kinda feel bad about it.

Or maybe I don't. But I do wish that my main skills in writing and reasoning didn't overwhelmingly center on critical thought.


And sometimes I wish I didn't think so much.

So for a long time I've wanted to write another big treatise on my views on violence and war, and now I don't have to.

This article, over at Burnside Writer's Collective does a pretty good job of hitting my thoughts and reasoning, even the ambiguity and evolving understanding. Thanks to my good friend Rich for sending it my way. Rich is a peach.

There are, of course a lot of other reasons and subjects to delve into when discussing a Christian response to violence in society, but I found that article to be more concise and clear than I would probably be. Who knows. Maybe I'll still write my treatise.



In other news, my reel should be viewable in the next week. I finished it last night and Brij is putting some awesome music to it. I'll keep you posted.

what a terrible night for a curse!

So a lot happened this week.

I've been busy with merch design for bands, which has been a blash. I LOVE DOING BAND ART. It constantly stretches my stylistic and technical abilities, and my ability to conceptualize and actualize ideas. I also really enjoy the insane challenge of economy of color, as most of these designs can't ever use more that 1 or 2 colors. It's fun. Here's a design I did for a ska/punk band from Georgia. It's for their forthcoming EP.


Had a really great talk last night with Kev about all manner of things. It was one of my favorite parts of this week. We raked over Donut Gun and Doubledate, talking about what worked and what didn't in both. I feel priviledged to know so many people who are actually creating things.

I had some great times hanging out with friends this week. Matt and I slummed it at WalMart. We hung with the crazies at the tattoo shop. Bethany and I went places and did things. It was good.

Cleo is gone home until monday, to hang with Megan before she jerkily absconds to Seattle for grad work. Poor Cleo, she is sad. I hope she has a good time. So it's just me and Ico in the apartment this weekend, just like it used to be before I was married.

In other news, I got my XBOX back today!!! I met the UPS guy walking up the stairs after I kissed Cleo goodbye for the weekend. He handed over the Xbox, I hooked it up promptly and it worked. IT WORKED! The odd thing is that I'm playing through Chrono Trigger and have been spending so much time working and such, so I don't even know if I'm going to play it much this weekend. I have a bunch of projects to finish/work on, and Chrono Trigger is just sooooo good... maybe I'll download the Crackdown demo from Xbox live and blow some crap up tonight.

Anyway, it's nice and warmer here, up to 30 DEGREES! Heebie sent us a space heater she had no use for, and it was VERY appreciated. Go Heeb.

So now it's snowing outside, I just sent a design off to a band, and I'm listening to NPR. It's not a bad friday afternoon.
